The STEM Innovation project is part of the wider Moving on Tyne & Wear programme, which was developed to tackle health barriers to employment in the area.

The project will focus on providing volunteering opportunities for people aged 19 and over who are interested in working towards a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. It has a focus on people who have health barriers which prevent them from getting involved in training, education and volunteering opportunities available.

There are a number of ways of getting involved, including being a direct volunteer or becoming a 'volunteer buddy' and helping to support someone with health issues to break down the barriers and become more involved in their community.
